Tracey's Why

I gain as much fulfilment from seeing others create meaningful change as they do. Through my work, I know that greater awareness can transform lives, and it is this passion that drives me to continually learn, grow, and support others in new ways.

My life hasn't been easy. I've experienced violence, grief, adversity, and loss. I've faced challenges that shaped the way I see the world. Because of these experiences, I understand that what we see on the surface is often only part of the story. Today, I help others recognise what lies beneath the surface so they can move forward with greater understanding, confidence, and possibility.

Tracey's Story

"My journey started before I was even born."
Every journey

I was raised in an environment impacted by alcoholism, violence, and instability. As a young person, I often felt isolated, different, and lacking in confidence. I kept people at a distance because I was ashamed of what was happening at home. School brought its own social and emotional challenges, and I struggled to find where I belonged.

Surrounded by unhealthy patterns, they became my normal. As I grew older, I found myself repeating familiar experiences and relationships without understanding why. Looking back, I can now see how these early influences shaped my thoughts, behaviours, decisions, and beliefs. At the time, I wasn't aware of what was happening beneath the surface. I simply believed this was how life was meant to be.

It would take many years before I began to understand the hidden moments influencing my life and how awareness could create a different path forward.

Every journey
I wanted something better for my children

Life had a few more twists ahead. After a few years of marriage, my husband was involved in a motorbike accident that resulted in severe brain and spinal injuries. Following three months in hospital, he passed away. At 21 years of age, I found myself widowed, raising a two-year-old toddler, and pregnant with our second child. Life was challenging and was about to become even more difficult.

After the birth of my second child, I entered another relationship marked by alcoholism and violence, and later had my third child. My children were exposed to circumstances I desperately wanted to change. My mother, who had also experienced violence, encouraged me to attend a 12-step program for relatives and friends of alcoholics. It was there that I began to recognise how experiences, beliefs, and patterns can be passed from one generation to the next, often without us even realising it.

The Path Forward

The Path Forward

As my awareness grew, I began to recognise how my experiences, behaviours, beliefs, and choices were influencing the outcomes I was creating for myself and my children. I realised that if I wanted a different future, I needed to understand what was driving my decisions. Over time, my confidence grew, along with a greater sense of self-worth and respect.

Eventually, I ended the unhealthy relationship, yet I still felt drawn back towards what was familiar. Looking back, I now understand that many of my past experiences and emotional imprints were continuing to influence my life beneath the surface. As my awareness deepened, I became stronger, recognised new possibilities, and began creating a different path forward. One of those steps was returning to complete my high school education as a mature-aged student.

Helping My Son

Through my own journey, I discovered new ways to support my son, who had been diagnosed with severe ADHD. He struggled with anger, emotional outbursts, and challenges that often left me concerned for both his wellbeing and the people around him.

Determined to help him succeed in both education and life, I researched ADHD and explored a variety of approaches with my son and his school. I remained open to new possibilities and committed to creating a different future for my children. I wanted them to have opportunities I never had.

The school embraced these strategies, and together we worked to help my son recognise the signs, triggers, and hidden moments that occurred before his behaviour escalated. The results were remarkable. Even his psychiatrist was surprised by the changes taking place. In fact, he was so impressed that he invited me to speak with the parents of his patients.

"I didn't know then what I know now."

Building a Different Future

As my confidence and awareness grew, so did my belief that a different future was possible. As a single mother raising three children, one with a disability, I returned to complete my high school education before going on to earn a Bachelor of Education.

Over the following decade, I continued learning, growing, and expanding my understanding of myself and the influences that had shaped my life. It often felt like I was challenging old beliefs and creating new possibilities. The journey wasn't easy, which is why I understand how difficult it can be for people to move beyond familiar patterns and embrace a different way forward.

"For me it was so important that my children
didn't have to live through what I did. I wanted
something better."

Finding My Place

Finding My Place

As my awareness grew, I began to reassess what truly mattered to me and the kind of future I wanted to create. As I changed, I started to recognise new possibilities, healthier relationships, and different outcomes for both myself and my children.

I met the most loving and supportive man, yet part of me still questioned whether I deserved such happiness. Thankfully, I had people around me who encouraged me to trust myself and embrace this new chapter. For the first time, I began to see that life could be different from what I had always known.

At the same time, I was working as a contract teacher. I loved helping students succeed, particularly those who faced challenges, lacked confidence, or felt unseen. I understood many of their struggles because I had experienced them myself.

When Life Changed Again

My world was turned upside down when my beloved husband passed away only a few short months after we were married in December 2000.

It would have been easy to become consumed by grief and lose hope. There were times when I questioned how I would continue moving forward. Just when life seemed to improve, another challenge would appear. Yet something deep within me continued searching for answers, understanding, and a better future.

"Putting one foot in front of the other, I continued searching for understanding, purpose, and a different way forward.

Relief teaching expanded my understanding of people

I began relief teaching to work with students from a variety of backgrounds, schools, and life experiences. Every classroom was different, yet I noticed a common thread: behaviour rarely told the whole story. The more schools I worked in, the more curious I became about what was happening beneath the surface for both students and educators.

These experiences deepened my understanding of learning, behaviour, relationships, and school culture. They also inspired me to write Just A Relief Teacher, a book that highlights the valuable contribution relief teachers can make in supporting students, staff, and learning outcomes.

Relief teaching gave me a unique opportunity to observe patterns across many different educational settings and further shaped the perspective I bring to my work today.

Deepening My Understanding

While continuing to teach, I became increasingly interested in human behaviour, learning, and understanding why people respond differently to life's challenges. I was passionate about helping students recognise their potential and supporting others to see new possibilities for themselves.

Over time, I noticed that many struggles could not always be explained by what was visible on the surface. The more I observed, the more curious I became about the hidden influences shaping our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and decisions.

Eventually, I left teaching following a workplace experience involving bullying and intimidation. What followed was one of the most difficult periods of my life. At the time, I had no idea that this experience would become a catalyst for deeper healing, greater self-awareness, and the work I now do today.

What I discovered changed my life

Discovering What Was Hidden

The workplace experience had a profound impact on my life. Despite my determination to move forward, I found myself struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, and the effects of trauma. Like many people, I was trying to understand why I was reacting the way I was and searching for answers that would help me move forward.

That search eventually led me to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting. Through these approaches, I began to understand how past experiences, emotional imprints, and hidden influences can continue to shape our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and decisions long after an event has passed.

What I discovered changed my life. It helped me understand the hidden moments influencing my own experiences and became the foundation of the work I do today: helping others make the invisible visible and create new possibilities for their future.
